AICCRA @ COP27: Agricultural transformation requires a stronger focus on justice for vulnerable farmers

At COP27, the Koronivia Joint Work on Agriculture will determine agriculture’s future in climate talks. Yet research from University of Leeds shows the working group has not prioritized justice. Audience and speakers will discuss just agricultural transformation in the UNFCCC and beyond.

About this event

At COP27, the Koronivia Joint Work on Agriculture (KJWA) will determine the future of agriculture in climate negotiations. Research from the University of Leeds shows Koronivia did not prioritize justice in its initial phase. As negotiators consider future COP decisions on agriculture, justice must be central. Justice - representational, distributional and historical - is particularly critical for the most vulnerable farmers.

This session will discuss social justice and equity in food systems and how these principles should be integrated into the UNFCCC process.

About the Food and Agriculture Pavilion

CGIAR, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and The Rockefeller Foundation are collaborating to show how agrifood systems are part of the solution to the climate crisis under the first ever pavilion at the UN Conference of Parties dedicated to food and agriculture. In the pavilion, the three organizations will lead a unique program of events bringing together government and community leaders, farmers, academics and other experts who are taking decisions on innovative solutions to help countries take effective climate action.
