AICCRA @ COP27: Nutrition-sensitive and climate-smart agrifood systems: tools and options to move to implementation

This event will describe concrete steps being taken to link climate action and nutrition impact with a focus on agrifood system transformation.  FAO and partners will highlight innovative tools and mechanisms to realize the ambition of nutrition-sensitive, climate-smart agrifood systems worldwide.

Background

Climate change impacts and risks are becoming increasingly complex and more difficult to manage.  Simultaneously, the world is facing the continued crisis of hunger and multiple forms of malnutrition.  A shift towards sustainable, climate resilient, food production and food choice would help reduce health and climate change costs by up to US$ 1.3 trillion , while supporting healthy diets in the face of climate change. Transformative policy, investment, and action for multiple SDG benefits are a must.

About this event

The event aligns with the COP27 vision to move from planning to implementation and showcases harmonization of efforts focused on win-win solutions. Through sharing experiences, challenges, and innovations with concrete recommendations for expanded action, the event will support moving rapidly from the vision of the I-CAN to timely, inclusive, and scaled action on the ground.

The event will be held in the Food and Agriculture Pavilion sponsored by FAO/CGAIR/Rockefeller.  It will begin with a welcome and opening presentation reminding the audience of the importance of tackling climate and malnutrition challenges simultaneously. It will also highlight global and national partnerships and initiatives including especially the COP27 Presidency I-CAN.  The event will then move to a move dynamic discussion and dialogue.
