AICCRA Ghana on Access to Agriculture Services for Women Farmers

Join us for a knowledge-sharing and discussion-based webinar with AICCRA's Gender team in Ghana. Speakers will share experiences, strategies, and approaches to increasing the access of women farmers to Agriculture Advisory services.

Background

Women play an important role in African agriculture and about (79 per cent) of women in Sub-Saharan Africa are actively involved in agriculture as their main source of livelihood. However, in a study on the Cost of the Gender Productivity Gap , women lag behind in farm productivity due to a number of factors.

These factors include limited access to agriculture extension services, land, improved production technologies, and farm inputs. Women farmers and livestock keepers in Africa are thus generally less well-informed and less well-resourced, which makes them more vulnerable to shocks that negatively impact farming and livestock-keeping activities.

The AICCRA project is building local capacity through the promotion of innovations in agriculture in addition to ensuring that women are benefitting from Climate Smart Technologies and Climate Information Services in a gender transformative manner.

As a result, AICCRA'S Gender and Social Inclusion team is organizing a new webinar series with the objective of sharing knowledge and experiences among countries and exploring strategies and approaches on access to Agriculture Advisory services by women farmers and how this is being promoted within the project.

Event

During the webinar, there will be a presentation by the Ghana Country team followed by discussions with all participants. The discussions will be focused on unpacking some of the key barriers, opportunities and meaningful engagements with farmers in accessing Climate Smart Agriculture technologies and Climate Information Services in a gender-smart manner.
