Launching this week in Bamako, Mali, the national AgData Hub is a digital climate information platform aimed at creating a data and information ecosystem to support various stakeholders involved in agricultural planning in Mali. The Hub centralizes agricultural and climate data to facilitate integration in decision-making at different levels.

The platform will connect climate data sources from the Ministry of Agriculture, non-governmental organizations, agricultural research institutes and statistical departments.

Background

The AICCRA (Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa) project seeks to scale climate information services and climate-smart agricultural technologies to enhance smallholder farmers’ access to climate innovations in Africa. In Mali, AICCRA is coordinated by the AfricaRice Center and focuses on rice-based value chains, including crops and livestock produced in similar environments.

The AgData Hub will be hosted by the National Meteorological Agency (MALI-METEO), marking the beginning of the implementation of an agro-climatic data center aimed at supporting agricultural planning in Mali.

About AgData Hubs

AgData Hubs are designed as national agricultural and climate data centers facilitating the integration of meteorological data in agricultural decision-making. By connecting various data sources and through application programming interfaces (APIs), the Hub provides simplified and centralized access to essential data for users such as policymakers, financial institutions, and organizations working with farmers.

The primary objective of this activity is to facilitate the establishment of an agro-climatic data interface that will support better decision-making for actors within the agricultural sector.

From the launch event, we expect increased awareness of the importance of climate data in agricultural planning, as well as the establishment of strategic partnerships to support the AgData Hub's implementation. The event also aims to engage participants in discussions and workshops to promote broader adoption of the platform.
