Roundtable | Policy coherence for climate-smart agriculture in Africa
At this roundtable discussion, experts identified and addressed critical gaps in the design, implementation, monitoring and financing of climate and agricultural policies for Africa.
Background
More coherent policies mean action to limit climate change and support smallholder farmers are mutually reinforcing.
They also:
- Align local, national and international action to scale innovations
- Overcome fragmented or siloed policy actions
- Help policy actions have more impact
- Support more resilient communities around the world
Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research in Africa (AICCRA) led an extensive consultation on policy coherence, producing an analysis of efforts to promote climate-smart agriculture across Africa.
Through this analysis and AICCRA's engagement, key recommendations have emerged which identify critical gaps in the design, implementation, monitoring and financing of climate and agricultural policies throughout Africa, and ways they can be addressed.
In addition, this analysis identifies entry points which can inform future interventions and funding for climate-smart agriculture in Africa.
Discussion
At this roundtable workshop, AICCRA facilitated a dialogue between experts on policy, intervention and applied research for climate-smart agriculture.
The AICCRA team presented the findings and recommendations of a new working paper.
The roundtable workshop informed and validated the findings of this working paper.
