This side event forms a critical milestone towards recommendations and mobilizing financing alignment while integrating panelists and audience reflections.

The discussions will directly contribute towards the preparations for the Africa Climate Summit in September and set the motion for planned high-level engagements on mobilizing climate financing.

Background

In 2021, the African Union (AU) adopted its Climate Change and Resilient Development Strategy and Action Plan (2022-2032), as well as its ten-year Green Recovery Action Plan (2021 – 2027).

These policy frameworks seek to harmonise the continent’s response to climate change over the next decade, setting out the key guiding principles, priorities, and intervention areas for enhanced climate cooperation and green growth.

These policy frameworks also signal a call to action from Member States, development partners, civil society, the private sector, and from society at large, to support the financial, technical and capacity needs identified both Strategies.

Targeted investment and partnerships will be key to the effective implementation of these Strategies. Aligned collective action is essential to achieve the immense impact needed for the co-design and joint implementation of projects and initiatives to ensure a sustainable, prosperous, equitable and climate-resilient Africa.

About the event

To support planning and action for these important intervention areas and the policy implementation milestones, scaling innovative financing is urgently required to enhance the implementation of the Climate Change Strategy’s and Green Recovery Plans’ intervention axes and priorities respectively.

Panelists from both the public, private sector and research for development will address key strategic financing priorities and implementation alignment to support Africa’s transformative agenda on climate change and resilient development.
