Background

On 7th to 9th May 2024 the Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Summit will be held in Nairobi, Kenya, to deliberate on Africa’s widespread long-term decline in soil health on farmlands - a phenomenon that continues today and negatively impacts the continent’s agricultural productivity and food security.

The objective of the Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Summit is to bring together all African Union (AU) Member States and relevant stakeholders to highlight the crucial role of healthy soils in Africa’s food systems transformation and to agree on a 10-year African Fertilizer and Soil Health Action Plan.

The 10-year Action Plan seeks to deliver concrete recommendations and steps to be taken by African leaders and stakeholders over the next 10 years to address key challenges on soil health.

The Action Plan will provide guidance on policy actions and investments that will enable farmers to work toward re-building soil health and ultimately increase the yields and profits.
