AICCRA @ COP28: Partnerships that mobilize investments for climate-resilient food systems in fragile and conflict-affected regions
CGIAR and the World Food Programme (WFP) will launch a new partnership that will support food systems innovators in fragile contexts through science-driven entrepreneurship support and invite public and private stakeholders to collaborate. This event aims to mobilise new, additional partners to join the partnership and scale its ambition for communities in fragile and conflict-affected regions.
About the event
CGIAR and the World Food Programme (WFP) will launch a new partnership that will support food systems innovators in fragile contexts through science-driven entrepreneurship support and invite public and private stakeholders to collaborate.
This event aims to mobilise new, additional partners to join the partnership and scale its ambition for communities in fragile and conflict-affected regions.
In the discussion, we will explore the role that SME accelerators can play in scaling innovations for climate-smart agriculture in Africa, looking at the impact of AICCRA projects in Zambia and Senegal
Furthermore, the event will:
- Highlight and break down systemic issues surrounding access to finance for green entrepreneurship in Africa
- Showcase solutions from the development finance, the agricultural research and the humanitarian sector to catalyze investments into African food, land and water systems
- Increase awareness of the massive potential of cross-sectoral collaboration between finance, research and entrepreneurship to identify and develop scalable green solutions, and monitor the sustainability of these solutions
- Convene audience members from different sectors to identify common goals and to foster collective action

- Businesses as a method to scale in AgroEcology (CGIAR)
- Showcasing innovative solutions in climate adaptation in Africa (WFP)
The event supports the ambitions of the COP28 UAE Presidency and the Innovation Commission for Climate Change, Food Security, and Agriculture in promoting priority innovations, especially ‘Digital agricultural extension services to provide customized and timely information to farmers at a low marginal cost’.
The 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference or Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC, more commonly referred to as COP28, will be the 28th United Nations Climate Change conference, held from November 30 until December 12, 2023, at the Expo City, Dubai.
