Background

As mobile internet access expands across Africa, opportunities emerge to reach smallholder farmers with user-friendly digital decision support tools.

Where these tools are bundled with complementary innovations and advisory services, they can improve access and empower African farmers (especially women) to make sustainable, climate-smart decisions that improve livelihoods and strengthen resilience.

But are we doing enough to maximise the potential of data-informed digital tools that help climate-smart men and women farmers?

This workshop will share the experience of projects in Africa – like RiceAdvice – that have rolled out digital tools, drawing lessons from the piloting, validating and scaling of compelling innovations.

Among others, the workshop will showcase recent experience from the implementation of the Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA), a $60 million World Bank regional project to help African countries strengthen the resilience of their agricultural sectors to the threat posed by climate change.

The workshop also explores ways on lessons sharing across institutions, countries and a broader set of (sometimes unusual) partners to maximise impact.
