*This page will be updated on an ongoing basis.*
The Africa Climate Summit and Africa Climate Week will both be hosted by Kenya on behalf of the African Union and UNFCCC respectively, in the run-up to COP28.
The Africa Climate Summit (ACS), to be held from 4-6 September, marks a key moment for African Union member states to come together to promote greater climate action to enhance livelihoods, accelerate growth and help Africa better access international markets and avoid emission-intensive development. This is one of the key moments in which African states will more publicly align their goals to unlock climate finance and investment for greater climate resilience and just transition pathways.
The Africa Climate Week (ACW) will be held from 4-8 September and is one of four annual Regional Climate Weeks held each year by UNFCCC. In 2023, ACW will build momentum ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference COP28 in Dubai and the conclusion of the first Global Stocktake, designed to chart the way for fulfilling the Paris Agreement's key goals.
Our message for ACS and ACW
Transforming African agriculture—and the global food system it can support—is a priority for African leaders and their global partners. The need for a robust and coordinated response is clear, accelerating the rollout and scaling of what we already know to work well to bolster food security must be our priority.
AICCRA aims to scale climate-smart agriculture (CSA) and climate information services (CIS) so that they reach millions of small-scale farmers in Africa, building on more than 50 years of CGIAR innovation.
AICCRA has become a key pillar of the CGIAR 2030 Research & Innovations Strategy, which seeks to make critical contributions to collective global targets of equipping 500 million small-scale producers to be more resilient to climate shocks.
At ACS and ACW, we're sharing insights, learnings and outcomes from our work and collaboration with local, national and regional organizations to build a climate-smart Africa for small-scale farmers. See more details below!
